Emma Roberts to Play Nancy Drew in Film

Posted on September 28, 2005

Emma Roberts will play teen sleuth Nancy Drew in a film version of the popular children's mystery series according to a Reuters news story. Emma Roberts is the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and niece of actress Julia Roberts. The film will be called Nancy Drew: The Mystery in Hollywood Hills.

The first Nancy Drew character appeared in young adult mystery novels in the 1930s. Nancy Drew books have continued to be published since the original Nancy Drew Mystery series. Nancy's character has evolved over the years. The most recent series from Simon and Schuster, called Girl Detective, is sent in present day. One would expect a smart child like Nancy to be adept at using a computer as Emma is in the still from the film below. Emma is holding a magnifying glass in the poster, like Nancy Drew did years ago.

Actress Emma Roberts is a very busy 14-year-old. She is the star of the Nickelodeon's teen show Unfabulous and also has an album out called Unfabulous And More. This is not the first attempt at making the Nancy Drew series into a film or TV show. IMDB.com shows fifteen entries with "Nancy Drew" in the title.

Nancy Drew: The Mystery in Hollywood Hills is slated to arrive in theaters on June 15, 2007. This post was updated to add the movie poster and the release date. And now the trailer:
