Emma Thompson to Write New Peter Rabbit Book

The BBC reports that Emma Thompson has been asked by publisher Frederick Warne, a division of Penguin, to write a new Peter Rabbit story. The book will be published in 2012 to mark the 110th anniversary of Beatrix Potter's first Peter Rabbit story, The Tale Of Peter Rabbit.

Emma Thompson says, "When Mr Rabbit invited me to write a further tale, I was more honoured than I can say. I hope I don't let him or his extraordinary creator down."

Emma Thompson does have experiencing writing for children. She wrote the screenplays for Nanny McPhee and Nanny McPhee Returns, which were based on the Collected Tales of Nurse Matilda by Christianna Brand.

The Belfast Telegraph reports that this will be first new book in the Peter Rabbit collection published since 1930. It will be the 24th Peter Rabbit tale. Peter Rabbit will visit Scotland in the new book.

Update: The new book is called The Further Tale of Peter Rabbit. It features illustrations by Eleanor Taylor and is available for purchase on Amazon.com.
