Author Eoin Colfer has been named Ireland's Laureate for Children's Literature. He is the third Laureate na Nog for Ireland. The announcement was made by the Ireland Arts Council. The Arts Council says the honor was established to engage young people with high quality children's literature. The Council also wanted to highlight the importance of children's literature. Colfer says no one is safe from his appointment as Children's Laureate. He warns that he will find you and tell you a story.

Colfer says in a statement, "I feel incredibly honoured and incredibly petrified to be taking on the Laureate mantle after Niamh and Siobhan. I feel I am representing my family and my county and indeed all book people in Ireland which is not something I mean to take lightly. I intend to spend my time spreading stories to every nook and cranny in the country. Nobody is safe. It doesn't matter where you hide - I will find you and tell you a story."

Colfer is the author of the popular Artemis Fowl series. Some of his other works include Half Moon Investigations, The Wish List and The Supernaturalist. He latest novel is W.A.R.P. - The Reluctant Assassin. Colfer also wrote the sixth installment of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.
