The 57th annual Writers Guild Awards were held on Saturday. The big winners for film were Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Sideways. Eternal Sunshine by Charlie Kaufman, based on a story by Kaufman, Michel Gondry and Pierre Bismuth, won for original screenplay. Sideways by Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor, and based on a novel by Rex Pickett, won for best adapted screenplay. Tony Kushner continued to rack up awards for his Pulitzer-winning play Angels in America. He won the best adapted screenplay award for his television version of the story. One interesting twist was the writing award for best comedy-variety series: this year the award went to Late Night With Conan O'Brien. A full list of the winners can be found here.
