Evangeline Lilly Dresses Like a Squickerwonker to Chat About Her New Book
Posted on November 27, 2014
Evangeline Lilly was a guest on Late Night With Jimmy Kimmel to talk about her new children's book, The Squickerwonkers. Evangeline wrote the story when she was fourteen years old, but had no idea how to get it published.
Evangeline eventually got the children's picture book published and she had some very talented help. Her illustrator is Johnny Fraser-Allen, who is a senior sculptor and conceptual designer at WETA workshop. Yes, Weta -- the company that created the look for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, as well as for many other hit films. And speaking of The Hobbit, Evangeline co-stars in the upcoming last installment in which she plays Tauriel the elf.
Evangeline said she retired from acting after Lost and several movies, but Peter Jackson pulled her out of retirement to do the Hobbit films. Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens wrote the forward to the book and have been quite supportive of her efforts. The book follows the adventures of Selma of the Rin-Run Royals, a clever, but spoiled little girl. Selma falls in with a group of marionettes and ends up learning some very important life lessons from the Squickerwonkers. It's a smart, clever and beautifully illustrated book that would make a fabulous holiday gift.
Evangeline showed up for the Kimmel interview wearing a Squickerwonkers costume, prompting Jimmy to demand, "What the hell are you wearing?" Kate is very excited about her book and says her 3 1/2 year old son loves it, even though it is aimed at children who are a bit older. Evangeline's next role will be in Marvel's Ant-Man with Paul Rudd. Here's a clip from the interview:
