eWatch Now Monitors Web Publications

eWatch Inc., an Internet monitoring company, has announced the availability of a monitoring service for web publications. The eWatch Web Publications coverage indexes more than 1,000 web-based newspapers, magazines, e-zines, and other editorial news and information sites such as the L.A. Times.com, Chicago Tribune.com, Slate.com and CNN.com.
Companies routinely monitor print and broadcast media for news that affects themselves and their industries. The number of publications on the web is increasing daily, and those sites are updated much more often than their print or broadcast counterparts. A recent Columbia Journalism School survey revealed that 50% of print newspapers and magazines have online editions, a number that is expected to reach 70% by 2001. Most of these web publications contain original content not appearing in print, with more than one-fifth reporting that as much as half of their content is original.
