Facebook Ends Its Facebook Email Service

Posted on February 25, 2014

Facebook has decided to end its Facebook email service. Facebook gave everyone an @facebook.com email address, but the social network giant says most people were not using it. It wasn't a feature that many Facebook users had been clamoring for. Facebook even upset users when it gave them @facebook.com addresses in 2012.

Starting in March, Facebook emails will now forward to the primary email you are currently using for Facebook. TechCrunch says you will be able to turn off this forwarding.

The Verge reports that a message sent out by Facebook about the change says, "We're making this change because most people haven't been using their Facebook email addresses, and we wanted to make it easier to view all your emails in one place. Plus, we can focus on improving our mobile messaging experience for everyone."

Facebook did just acquire WhatsApp for billions so it is clear mobile messaging is extremely important to them.
