Film Based on Debut Novelist's Book Might Hit Theaters Before Book is Published

Posted on September 21, 2011

Rebecca Serle's first novel, When You Were Mine, is a twist on William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The young adult novel tells the story of Rosaline, Romeo's first love.

When You Were Mine is being published by Simon Pulse and will arrive in bookstores on May 1, 2012. Vulture is reporting that a movie based on the book could arrive in theaters before the book it is based on arrives in bookstores. It might also star actress Keira Knightley.

It would probably be best if the book is published first, but Rebecca Serle isn't complaining. Many writers would love to have the "problem" of a movie based on their book arriving on the big screen before their book is even out.

Serle told Vulture, "I think writers are prone to overanalyzing, but it could be a multitude of things: People could hate the movie, but love the book. Or they could hate the book, but love the movie. Or they could love the book and love the movie. Or they could hate both. To be perfectly frank, I don't know how any of it is going to go."
