First Annual Independent Bookstore Day is May 2nd
Posted on April 4, 2015
Independent booksellers across the country are making plans for the first annual Independent Bookstore Day on May 2nd. So far 400 bookstores have signed up to be part of the fun. The idea was started by the Northern California Independent Bookstore Association, which launched California Bookstore Day last year.
The event was such a success that the organization reached out to other independent bookstore associations across the country asking them to join in. Each bookstore's celebration is targeted at its community and will be unique. There will be author readings, giveaways, autograph signings, programs and other entertainment. And the bookstores will be selling some great literary-themed merchandise created just for the celebration.
More than 65 authors have donated limited edition items for the event. The items will be available only on May 2nd at participating bookstores. Items include a Margaret Atwood stencil, a color broadside from Stephen King's forthcoming novel Finders Keepers, an original, signed Captain Underpants prints and many more.
You can find a map of all the independent bookstores participating in the event here.
