Posted on April 6, 2014

Flea, the bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, will publish his memoir with Grand Central Publishing, a division of the Hachette Book Group. Michael Balzary (Flea) is writing the memoir himself. A publication date and name for the book have not yet been determined.

Hachette says Flea will share stories from his life, including his upbringing in the suburbs of New York and Los Angeles. He will also discuss his bohemian lifestyle with his step-father, a jazz musician. Flea also discusses his relationship with Red Hot Chili Peppers lead singer Anthony Kiedis and how they came to found the band. Flea will also explain his experiences with drug use.

Flea says in a statement, "I love literature deeply. I view books as sacred things, and in writing my story, I'm going to my best to honor the form that has played such a huge part in shaping who I am."

Update: Here's Flea talking about his memoir, Acid For the Children, and his childhood on CBS.
