Foxconn to Replace Workers With 1 Million Robots

Posted on July 31, 2011

Foxconn is a company best known for manufacturing part for Apple gadgets, including the iPad and iPhone. It is a subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd., a Taiwanese company.

Xinhuanet, a Chinese news agency, is reporting that Foxconn, which employs about 1 million workers in China, is planning to replace many workers with 1 million robots. Foxconn uses 10,000 robots today and plans to use 1 million robots by the end of 2014. That's a lot of robots!

Xinhaunet says the the news about the robots was given to workers at a "workers' dance party." News that they would be replaced by robots must have brought the music and dancing to a stop.
