Frozen Screenwriter Jennifer Lee to Adapt A Wrinkle in Time Into a Feature Film

Posted on August 6, 2014

Variety reports that Frozen screenwriter Jennifer Lee will adapt Madeleine L'Engle's classic young adult book A Wrinkle in Time into a feature film for Disney.

Jennifer Lee also co-directed Frozen with Chris Buck. No director has been attached to the new project yet. A Wrinkle in Time was published in 1962 and won the Newberry Medal in 1963. The story follows the adventures of a young girl named Meg Wallace, her younger brother Charles and their friend Calvin O'Keefe. One night a mysterious stranger appears at the Wallace house. The next thing you know, the kids are setting off across time and space to find Meg and Charles' astrophysicist dad who disappeared, leaving his family behind.

The book is part of the Time Quartet series which includes the book's sequels, A Wind in the Door, Many Waters and A Swiftly Tilting Planet. We're assuming this is a live action project and not an animation, although that has not been confirmed yet.

Disney is clearly ready to allow Ms. Lee to follow her vision on this one. Frozen has made nearly $1.3 at the box office. Jeff Stockwell, who wrote the underperforming film Bridge to Terabithia, had taken the first crack at the script a few years ago, but that script has been scrapped.

We think this should make a fabulous movie. Of course, the casting will be key, as will the selection of the director.
