Gillian Flynn to Reimagine Hamlet for the Hogarth Shakespeare Project

Posted on May 31, 2014

Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn has joined the group of authors reinventing Shakespeare classics for Random House's Hogarth imprint. Flynn will tackle Hamlet for The Hogarth Shakespeare project.

Flynn said in a statement, "Hamlet has long been a fascination of mine: murder, betrayal, revenge, deceit, madness -- all my favorite things. Add to that some of Shakespeare's most intriguing, curious characters from the titular brooding prince to rueful Ophelia -- and what (slightly cheeky) writer wouldn't be tempted to reimagine it?"

The highly anticipated series will launch in 2016. Other authors participating include Margaret Atwood, who is reimagining The Tempest, Tracy Chevalier, who is writing Othello, Howard Jacobson, who is reimagining The Merchant of Venice), Jo Nesbo, who is writing Macbeth, Anne Tyler, who is taking on The Taming of the Shrew, and Jeanette Winterson who will reinvent The Winter's Tale.
