Google Launches Blog Search Beta

Posted on September 14, 2005

Google has launched a blog search beta. Google has indexed millions of blog posts since June, 2005. They also have included other blogs besides the blogs from the Blogger.com service which Google owns. Google says the goal of its blog search is "is to include every blog that publishes a site feed."

Google's Blog Search runs like Google's main search engine and the speed of the search is very fast. This combination of familiarity and speed should make Google Blog Search a user-friendly search tool. However, the index is not as deep as some of the other blog search engines because it only goes back to June, 2005. However, Google says it is working on this in its faq.

Why aren't my oldest posts listed?

Since Blog Search indexes blogs by their site feeds, it will only include items that have been posted since it started indexing a given blog. For most blogs, that will be around June 2005, or the time at which you submitted your blog for inclusion. We are working on ways to include older posts as well.

To get indexed by Google Blog Search the faq says you just need to publish a site feed and ping one of the updating services like Weblogs.com.
How do I get my blog listed?

If your blog publishes a site feed in any format and automatically pings an updating service (such as Weblogs.com), we should be able to find and list it. Also, we will soon be providing a form that you can use to manually add your blog to our index, in case we haven't picked it up automatically. Stay tuned for more information on this.
