Posted on June 28, 2013

Hachette Book Group (HBG) has acquried Hyperion, Disney's adult trade publishing imprint. Disney Publishing will retain its Disney-Hyperion children's and young adult books. Disney will also retain books related to its TV franchises. The Wall Street Journal reports that the acquisition price was not disclosed.

When the acquisition is completed, HBG will become the publisher of more than 1,000 books published by the Hyperion adult trade book division since its inception in 1991, as well as approximately 25 books scheduled for future publication. Authors of some of the forthcoming books include Joanne Lipman, J.R. Moehringer, Ethan Hawke and Kenneth Davis.

Hachette Book Group CEO Michael Pietsch said in a statement, "We welcome to HGB Hyperion's many excellent writers, whose works we are proud to publish. Hyperion's strong non-fiction list in particular is a perfect complement to HBG's title portfoilo. As Hyperion's sales and distribution partner, we know the books and writers on the list well and look forward to taking on full publishing responsibilities."
