Facebook Appears to Target Pinterest with New Hobbi App

Posted on February 14, 2020

Facebook appears to be targeting Pinterest with its new app called Hobbi. It is described in the Apple AppStore as the "one stop app for your personal projects."

The app example images show a Pinterest-like layout. The app description says, "Organize your photos into visual collections and see the progress you’re making over time. You might just surprise yourself with how much you have done."

The app also allows you create and share highlight videos from your DIY project in addition to photos. The name is obviously a shortened version of the word "hobbies" with the "es" subtracted.

A CNBC story calls Hobbi a Pinterest "copycat app." The story says shares of Pinterest shares fell over 4% in after-hours trading when news of the app hit the Internet.

The app was launched by Facebook's New Product Experimentation (NPE) team. The Hobbi listing on the App Store has a low 2.1 rating out of 5 stars after 22 reviews. It is a free app.
