Hollywood Pictures to Film R.L. Stine's Fear Street

Posted on October 31, 1997

Hollywood Pictures and Parachute Entertainment have entered into an agreement to create a feature film franchise based on America's frightfully successful R.L. Stine-authored No. 1 young adult book series "Fear Street". This agreement contemplates a fast-track production on a film based on Stine's best-selling "Fear Street" series. Waricha and Parachute Entertainment president Jane Stine will serve as executive producers on the films, which will be produced in association with Parachute Entertainment.

This latest arrangement with Parachute Entertainment expands upon Disney's existing relationship with Parachute and Stine, which includes the "Goosebumps HorrorLand" attraction at Walt Disney World's Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando, Fla., as well as such other ancillary projects as a television series, a themed Disney Cruise Line Getaway and audio books at Walt Disney Records. The deal also allows for a "Fear Street" theme park attraction at Walt Disney World.

Since the 1989 launch of "Fear Street," more than 75 titles have been published, with more than 50 million copies in print in the United States alone. "Fear Street" paved the way for the 1992 launch of "Goosebumps," America's No. 1 book series and the most successful book series of all time, with more than 200 million copies in print in the United States alone.
