Report: Homeland Security to Use Twitter, Facebook for Terror Alerts

Posted on April 7, 2011

There is word that the Homeland Security Department plans to replace its color-coded warning system with a new system that will send out alerts on Facebook and Twitter. The United States government's current national threat level is Elevated, or Yellow. It has been that way for a while..

Homeland Security already has an official Twitter account, @dhsjournal, so it would not be difficult to start sending out terror alert tweets on this account. However, @dhsjournal is not a very catchy twitter name for terror alerts. DHS also has an official Facebook page here.
