Hot Rumor: Apple in Talks to Buy Barnes and Noble

Posted on July 29, 2011

BGR reports on today's hot rumor: Apple is in talks to buy Barnes and Noble. BGR cites "a tip from an unproven source" which claims to have knowledge about the talks.

The source says Apple will take over BN's digital library of books and other publications and move them to the iBooks store. It would then discontinue production of the NOOK. Some of the bricks and mortar stores will be turned into Apple stores and the rest will be closed. The rumored price is $1 billion to $1.5 billion.

The unsubstantiated rumor has the Interwebs in a tizzy today, and we have no idea whether it's true or not. Still, it's interesting, isn't it? Apple considers Amazon.com and the Kindle to be a major irritant, so this could be a way to get a piece of the ebooks action.
