iCopyright.com Goes Live On Latimes.com

Posted on January 19, 2000

iCopyright.com, a copyright and reprint clearinghouse, has announced that its service is live, providing reuse permissions and desktop reprints of stories from the Los Angeles Times. In addition, the San Jose Mercury News and U.S. News & World Report have joined the publishers taking part in iCopyright.com's pilot program. The pilot program already includes Ziff-Davis Inc., Dow Jones & Company, Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive, COMTEX News Network, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Software & Information Industry Association.

"The Los Angeles Times, the largest metropolitan daily in the United States, provides a wonderful showcase for what our service can do," said Mike O'Donnell, president and CEO of iCopyright.com. "This represents a major step toward our vision of being a global clearinghouse for any copyrighted content. In the coming months, we will continue to expand the iCopyright.com service by granting instant copyright permissions for many of our pilot publications."

By clicking on the iCopyright.com icon at the bottom of any story on latimes.com, readers can request and receive clearance to print, copy or e-mail the article. For desktop reprints and photocopies, iCopyright.com generates a formatted PDF file master, and for all clearances the service provides a printable license.

"iCopyright.com is a very valuable service for publishers," said Steven Christensen, senior vice president of the Los Angeles Times Syndicate, which handles rights and reprints for the newspaper. "By simplifying the process of granting clearances, iCopyright.com opens the door for us to better meet the needs of our readers, and it creates a new source of revenue for our newspaper."
