Internet Expeditions Site Launches With Caucasus Mountains Journey

Posted on April 12, 2000

FusionSpark Media, Inc., a start-up web content production company, will launch OneWorldJourneys.com, an Internet community featuring leading wilderness and nature photographers and writers, with a premier expedition in the Caucasus Mountains Region of the Country of Georgia. OneWorldJourneys.com's first live, two-week expedition, ``Georgia Revealed: Searching for the Soul of the Caucasus,'' is produced in collaboration with Washingtonpost.com for the site's photo channel and will be launched on April 16.

The expedition is inspired by the work of wilderness photographer Pat O'Hara who is documenting the country's system of nature reserves, national parks and protected lands in the Caucasus Mountains region. O'Hara's efforts are coordinated through Georgia's Protected Areas Program in support of President Eduard Shevardnadze's mission to protect Georgia's natural resources to promote tourism and economic development.

O'Hara will be joined by Sparkman, a photographer and digital imaging expert, and London-based journalist Eleanor O'Hanlon and writer Peter Naysmyth, author of the book Georgia: In the Mountains of Poetry. The expedition team will also include Denise Rocco, a photographer and seasoned Internet expedition producer.

``Our plan is to create the most visually compelling wilderness photography and expedition site on the Internet,'' said Sparkman.

OneWorldJourneys.com also plans to offer photo workshops, outdoor adventure travel advice, ecotourism information, and ecommerce opportunities including outdoor gear and photographic print sales. Two other expeditions this year will include the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, USA, and the jungle habitat of the Jaguar in Mexico. OneWorldJourneys.com is presented in partnership with Nature's Best Magazine, an award-winning nature photography magazine published in McLean, Va.
