J.K. Rowling: No More Harry Potter Stories After Cursed Child

J.K. Rowling has declared that there won't be any more stories starring Harry Potter. She made the pronouncement at the premiere for the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child which is playing in London's West End. The script for the play was released this past weekend to great fanfare, with bookstores holding midnight events on Saturday night with parties, readings and giveaways.

Rowling told Reuters that Harry "goes on a very big journey during these two plays and then, yeah, I think we're done. This is the next generation, you know. So, I'm thrilled to see it realized so beautifully but, no, Harry is done now."

The play is getting rave reviews. It tells the story of Harry, Hermione and Ron 19 years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. A number of new characters are introduced, including Harry's son, Albus Severus Potter. The play runs five hours with an intermission, but fans were thrilled at the length of the play.

Harry Potter's story may be done, but there are many more stories to be told in the Potterverse. Next up is the feature film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which hits theaters on November 18, 2016. The film is the first in a trilogy about Hogwarts alum Newt Scamander, who heads to America and gets into quite a bit of trouble. Eddie Redmayne stars as the irrepressible Newt, whose briefcase is bigger on the inside than the outside and contains quite a few magical creatures who love nothing more than to escape.
