J.K. Rowling to Publish Adult Novel With Little, Brown

Posted on February 23, 2012

Little, Brown Book Group landed the rights to publish J.K. Rowling's first novel for adults worldwide in English, including print, audio, and ebook versions. Little Brown publisher David Shelley will be Rowling's editor for the project. There are no details yet about the title or content of the book: that will be announced later this year.

J.K. Rowling said in a statement today:

"Although I've enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world. The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry's success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life."

At one point, Rowling hinted that she might write a mystery for her adult novel, but she also has said she has a number of other ideas. So far not a hint has leaked about the upcoming book, which we're guessing is already written.
