Johnny Depp to Produce and Star in Upcoming Dr. Suess Biopic

Posted on October 7, 2011

Johnny Depp has signed on to produce and possibly star in the upcoming biopic of the bestselling children's author and illustrator, Dr. Suess. The Hollywood Reporter says that Keith Bunin (In Treatment) will write the screenplay. The film will be live action, although animation could be used in some way in the film -- perhaps to illustrate Dr. Suess' famous characters. No director is attached yet.

Dr. Suess, whose real name was Theodor Geisel, wrote the children's classics, The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, Horton Hears a Who! and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. 200 million of his books have been sold, and several have been made into movies. Geisel died in September 1991 at the age of 87 after battling throat cancer.

This sounds like a very interesting project. Johnny Depp Depp could certainly do an interesting turn as Dr. Suess, although a lot depends on who the director is.
