Jonathan Franzen's Book Sales Boosted by Oprah Pick

Posted on September 29, 2010

Author Jonathan Franzen wasn't always a fan of Oprah's book club sticker, but times have changed. Oprah Winfrey and Jonathan Franzen's fued ended when Oprah selected his latest novel, Freedom, for her book club. Oprah Winfrey says Franzen's novel is a masterpiece. She said on her show, "Now you haven't heard me say this word often, but this book is a masterpiece."

Oprah's selections still have the power to generate book sales. USA Today says the Oprah effect helped make Jonathan Franzen's novel become the 21st Oprah's Book Club pick to hit No. 1 on its bestselling books list. Freedom is also currently #2 on the New York Times fiction bestseller list - see here. It is also currently the sixth bestselling book on Amazon.com. This is very impressive for a novel that was released nearly a month ago.
