Jonathan Franzen's Glasses Stolen at Book Launch Party

Posted on October 5, 2010

The Bookseller reports that Jonathan Franzen's glasses were stolen at a book launch party last weekend at the Serpentine Gallery in the UK. The dastardly thieves stole Franzen's glasses and left a ransom note.

The ransom note said, "$100,000 - Your glasses are yours again!"

They clearly thought Franzen's glasses were worth a large sum. The police did what needed to be done. They dispatched a police helicopter to find the culprits.

Franzen's glasses were recovered undamaged after one of the thieves was found hiding in the bushes. Franzen has his glasses back and all is well in the world.

Time reports that the thieves crashed the party by claiming to be Puffin employees. They had quite the complex plan but it turns out it is not easy to steal Franzen's glasses and get away it.
