Joss Whedon Denies He's Making $100 Million for Avengers 2

Posted on May 23, 2013

There have been a lot of crazy rumors about the paychecks associated with Avengers 2 lately. Finally, they got so nuts that writer/director Joss Whedon decided to set the record straight. In a blog post on Whedonesque.com, Joss says that he is not making $100 million to write and direct Avengers 2:

He explained, "I was going to let it slide, but I've got this sour taste in my mouth. (Mmmm, lemonade!). Some facts are not facts. I'm not going to go into the whole thing, but jeepers, I'm not getting $100 mil on Avengers 2. If I were, I would come on this site and laugh and laugh and laugh. I'm not making Downey money. I'm making A LOT, which is exciting. I'm not pretending to be a poor farmer, an Everyman, an ANYman."

Downey money is $50 million, the amount that Robert Downey, Jr. confirmed to the press that he is earning for the film. Joss warn readers not believe other stories about him, such as 1) that he "can get a movie greenlit by sighing and staring into the middle distance;" 2) that he "ate a unicorn and made it winter for three years;" and 3) that he "can write."

We're certainly glad he cleared that up. Those unicorn rumors were very disturbing.
