Mightywords has announced the American Perspectives Writing Competition. In the competition contestants tell Mightywords what the Bill of Rights means to them in today's world in 1,000 to 5,000 words. The contest includes two categories, one for writers under age 18 and for writers over age 18. A winner in each category will receive $15,000 plus publication on the MightyWords website. Entries must be received via e-mail or U.S. mail by Friday, May 12, 2000.

The Final Draft/Express.com "Big Break" Screenwriting Competition is offering a prize of $10,000 and a trip to Hollywood. Other prizes include cash, software, and a chance to have your script represented by a Hollywood literary agent. The entry fee is $45 from March 15 through June 30; and $55 from July 1 through Sept. 30.

The USA Songwriting Competition has announced the launch of the Year 2000 songwriting event. Entrants have a chance to win a grand prize of over US$50,000 in cash and merchandise. Songs may be entered in 15 different categories including Pop, Rock, Country, R&B, World, Hip-Hop/Rap, Folk, Jazz, Latin and others. The entry deadline is May 31, 2000.

The Santa Fe Writers Project is offering a new content with cash awards, including a first prize of $7,500 in both prose (fiction/nonfiction) and screenwriting categories. Judges include novelists Kate Horsley and Ray Robertson, and the final judge is award-winning author Richard Currey. Entry Fee: $45. Visit the website for more information.
