Bouchercon '99
The 30th World Mystery Convention
September 30th to October 3rd, 1999
Bouchercon is a convention of mystery fans, authors of mystery fiction, mystery book sellers, and publishers, editors and agents working in the mystery field. It is open to the public and readers of mystery fiction are encouraged to attend to meet fellow readers and the people who produce the mysteries that we all enjoy.

Midwest Writers' Conference

The 31st annual Midwest Writers' Conference continues the tradition of providing aspiring and experienced writers the opportunity to learn from established authors, publishers, editors and agents. The conference includes lectures, workshops, competitive contests, personal interviews, informal group discussions, and an atmosphere of networking among writers.

A friendly science fiction and fantasy convetion for people who like to read. The Guest of Honor is Robert J. Sawyer, author of eleven novels including the Nebula winning The Terminal Experiment.

The 25th World Fantasy Convention
November 4-7, 1999
This year's annual World Fantasy Convention is held in Providence, Rhode Island. This year's theme is theme is "Voyages." Talk at the conference will be about journeying and travelers, about territories, maps, and cartographers. There will also be discussion about the paths of fantasy literature and the evolution of the genre.

Contests

Blue Mountain Arts is featuring a poetry contest with an expiration date of October 20th, 1999. Prizes include: four first prizes of $300, four 2nd prizes of $150 and eight third prizes of $50 each. Poems can be submitted through an online form.

Esquire and Yahoo! are hosting a fiction writing contest on Yahoo's website. The winner of the competition will be awarded $4,000 and will be published both in Esquire and online. Submission deadline is Sept. 10, 1999 for online entries and Sept. 15, 1999 for mail-in entries.
