Kathleen M. Waltz, president, publisher and chief executive officer of the Hampton Roads, Va.-based Daily Press, has been named president, publisher and chief executive officer of Orlando Sentinel Communications. Waltz succeeds John Puerner, who recently was named president and publisher of the Los Angeles Times. The appointment was announced by Jack Fuller, Tribune Publishing president.
``Kathy brings to Orlando a record of success,'' said Fuller. ``She knows Florida. She is a fine leader with a commitment to community. Her advertising background will be invaluable in this new assignment. Kathy has met every executive challenge presented to her, and I have enormous confidence that she will do a great job in and for Orlando.''
Waltz, 46, served as president, publisher and chief executive officer of the Daily Press since June 1998. Before that, she was vice president/general manager of the South Florida-based Sun-Sentinel Company, where she was responsible for advertising, circulation, consumer marketing, operations, technology, strategic planning and development. Previously, Waltz held a variety of management roles at the Chicago Tribune, including vice president/director of developing businesses and director/classified advertising. Waltz joined Tribune Company in 1973.
