Kerry Writer Blows It, Big Time

Posted on September 26, 2004

Writers are in great demand during political campaigns. But the devil is in the details, as the Kerry campaign found out this week. The Kerry campaign said today that it erred when answering a questionnaire for Outdoor Life magazine and mistakenly said that Senator Kerry counts a "Communist Chinese assault rifle" as a favorite gun. (!) The gun is actually an inoperable single bolt rifle, not an assault weapon, said spokesman David Wade. "The Kerry campaign should have described it as an old military rifle," he said. Just to clarify the Senator's preference in guns, aides commented that he also owns a double-barrel 12-gauge shotgun for hunting. We don't know who the lowly writer/staffer was who made this gaffe, but let's hope he does his research next time. I mean, really. A Communist weapon? That's not going to play well in the Heartland.
