Kevin Spacey Reads a Poem He Wrote for Carol Burnett

Posted on September 19, 2015

Carol Burnett was a guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to promote the release of The Carol Burnett Show: The Lost Episodes. Carol was talking about how screen legend Jimmy Stewart was her idol and how wonderful it was that he came on her show and that she got a chance to know him as a person, not just as a movie star.

Stephen and Kevin Spacey cooked up a little surprise for Carol. Kevin came out and did his best Jimmy Stewart impersonation (which was flawless) and read a homespun, corny poem he had written in her honor. Stewart loved to write poetry and would read poems on The Tonight Show when Johnny Carson hosted the show. The poem was funny and Kevin's delivery was perfect. In fact, Carol teared up at the sweet gesture.

Stephen Colbert's show is bringing a new style to late night which actually makes a nice addition to the styles of Conan O'Brien, James Corden, Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel. Colbert does do silly, but he also does serious. And even though Stephen has dropped his extreme right wing persona from The Colbert Report he has kept much of his award-winning writing and producing team from the show: Tom Purcell, Meredith Bennett, Emily Lazar, Barry Julien and Opus Moreschi all made the move.

Here is the clip:

Kevin Spacey a photograph on Twitter and tweeted, "Hope you liked the poem. You are a treasure!"
