Larry McMurtry Wins Golden Globe for Brokeback Mountain, Thanks Typewriter

Posted on January 17, 2006

Larry McMurty and Dianna Osanna won the Golden Globe for Best Screeplay. Mr. McMurtry then gave an unusual acceptance speech. He thanked his typewriter which is a Hermes 3000.

McMurtry said, "Most heartfelt, I thank my typewriter. My typewriter is a Hermes 3000, surely one of the noblest instruments of European genius."

We don't think we've ever seen a writer thank his typewriter at an awards show -- it was most interesting.

Brokeback Mountain was nominated for 7 Golden Globes and won four of them. The wins also included Best Director for Ang Lee.
