Last Typewriter Factory in the World Shut Down
Posted on April 26, 2011
The Daily Mail reports that Godrej and Boyce has has shut down its typewriter production plant in Mumbai, India. The plant was reportedly the very last plant in the world manufacturing typewriters.
The company made about 10,000 to 12,000 typewriters a year until 2009. The company says it doesn't get many orders for typewriters anymore.
Ironically, an article on Godrej's website has an article that says not to write off the typewriter. The article also says a manual typewriter will make a good writer a great one. There was also a story last month about how interest in vintage typewriters is on the rise.
