Lonely Planet, the guidebook publisher of books and information for adventurous, independent travelers, is now providing travel content for Yahoo!

Yahoo! Travel combines Lonely Planet's travel information with additional resources and Yahoo!'s navigational expertise to produce a comprehensive, easy-to-use Web guide to the world's most popular and most remote destinations. Yahoo! Travel also provides users the ability to book their air travel, car rentals and hotel accommodations on the site, creating a one-stop shop for all domestic and international travel needs.

"Lonely Planet has the world's most up-to-date travel information and Yahoo! is the best guide there is to the Web," says Lonely Planet's Multimedia Publisher Rob Flynn. "If you want to know how to get around in Uzbekistan, you come to Lonely Planet, and if you want to know how to get around on the Web, you go to Yahoo!. It makes sense for us to team up and provide travel information to Web users."

At present, Lonely Planet provides information on more than 100 countries from Argentina to Vietnam. Users can research essential facts including when it is best to travel, what to see, how to get around and health and safety warnings for travelers. Lonely Planet also provides crucial background information on local ecology, culture, history, events and activities as well as each country's recommended reading.

Lonely Planet was founded in 1973 by Tony and Maureen Wheeler, and it is headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, with satellite offices in Paris, London and Oakland, CA. Currently, Lonely Planet's Oakland office handles sales, marketing and distribution for the Americas as well as production of Lonely Planet's USA, Caribbean and Latin American guidebooks.
