Macmillan to Launch Crowdsourced Teen Romance Imprint

Posted on December 26, 2012

Macmillan Children's Publishing Group has announced plans to launch a crowdsourced teen romance imprint in Spring 2013 called Swoon Reads. Technically, the imprint is only partially crowdsourced as editors do get involved before the book is published.

The imprint will launch a website next year, where members can read, rate, and comment on the submissions. A message on the website says submissions that receive that highest ratings from the community will be read by the Swoon publishing team and those considered the most "Swoon-worthy" will be published in ebook and print formats.

Jean Feiwel, senior vice president and publisher of Feiwel and Friends and Square Fish, is the publisher of Swoon Reads. Publishers Weekly reports that the concept for Swoon Reads surfaced at a company-wide offsite meeting. The first Swoon books will be published in 2014.
