Mark Zuckerberg Says 1 Billion People Used Facebook on Monday

Facebook says 1 billion people used its Facebook service in a single day on Monday, August 24. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement in a post.

Zuckerberg says, "We just passed an important milestone. For the first time ever, one billion people used Facebook in a single day. On Monday, 1 in 7 people on Earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family."

Zuckerberg's post says one billion people "used Facebook" on Monday. It doesn't specify exactly how they were using it. We assume he is not including Instagram. Some of these people could have just been logged into Facebook and were surfing the Internet. Even if this is the case having 1 billion people logged into Facebook is a staggering number.

Zuckerbergy also says, "This was the first time we reached this milestone, and it's just the beginning of connecting the whole world." Zuckerberg would obviously like 7 in 7 people on Earth to use Facebook. To do that is going to require getting much more of the world online. The Washington Post reported last year that 4.4 billion people on Earth do not have an Internet connection. Zuckerberg won't be able to get these people pressing Like buttons anytime soon.
