Posted on July 17, 1998

Marvel Comics Group, a division of Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. will make comic book history this Fall by relaunching Amazing Spider-Man #1 and Peter Parker, Spider-Man #1. Marvel will also introduce two new Spider-Man titles: Spider-Man: Chapter 1 and Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man.

Bob Harras, Editor-in-Chief, Marvel Comics Group, stated: "The relaunch of Spider-Man will be a reinvention of the original Spider-Man through the perspective of one of the most talented creative teams in the industry. Simply put, Spider-Man will return in his original form -- the character that was embraced and loved by fans 36 years ago."

John Byrne (Uncanny X-Men, Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man and Avengers) will kick off the return of Spider-Man in October with Spider-Man: Chapter 1. In a 13-issue mini-series, Byrne will use his vision to retell the Stan Lee and Steve Ditko era, circa 1962-1965. Byrne will be the sole creative talent on the project. Also scheduled for a November release is Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man.
