Knight Ridder Digital announced a partnership with the McClatchy Company that will result in twelve McClatchy sites joining the Real Cities Web network. The addition of McClatchy expands the network to 68 local websites. McClatchy sites joining Real Cities include: sacbee.com, sacramento.com and sacticket.com in Sacramento, CA; startribune.com in Minneapolis, MN; newsobserver.com and triangle.com in Raleigh, NC; heraldonline.com in Rock Hill, SC; adn.com and alaska.com in Anchorage, AK; fresnobee.com and centralvalley.com in Fresno, CA; and modbee.com in Modesto, CA.

As part of the online partnership, Nando Media, McClatchy's Internet subsidiary, becomes a content partner for the Real Cities network and will provide member sites with coverage of sports and events like World Cup soccer and the Olympics. Nando Media also provides hosting and creation for several major sites around the country, such as The New York Daily News.

"The addition of the McClatchy sites to the Real Cities network further strengthens Real Cities' position as the leading national network of local news and information sites," said Hilary Schneider, president and CEO of Knight Ridder Digital. "McClatchy's sites substantially expand the Real Cities audience and solidify the network as the strongest national advertising vehicle for local media."

Boosted by McClatchy's local audiences, the national reach of the Real Cities network jumps 8% to 14.2 million monthly unique visitors in more than 60 cities. The online sites for the Sacramento Bee, Modesto Bee, and Fresno Bee also deepen Real Cities' coverage in the state of California, which already includes the San Jose Mercury News and Contra Costa Times in the San Francisco Bay Area, The Union-Tribune in San Diego and The Press-Enterprise in Riverside.
