McDonald's Fake Lincoln Fry Blog

Posted on February 8, 2005

McDonald's developed a fake blog and flash website to go with its "french fry that looks like President Abraham Lincoln" advertising campaign. A commercial based on the fake french fry ran during the Super Bowl. This ad was pretty well received by TV viewers, however many bloggers are upset that McDonald's created a blog with fake people.

ClickZ reported that losers from this year's Super Bowl ads "included McDonalds, which created a fake blog to go with its 'Lincoln Fry' effort that didn't play well with the online community." A "Lincoln Fry" prop used in the ad is now being auctioned at Yahoo for a bid price of $22,500, unless that is also a fake.

Strategic Public Relations says even the comments on the fake blog are fake. Buzz Marketing With Blogs offers a little encouragement for McDonald's saying, "On the upside, somebody at McDonald's actually gets blogs well enough to create a fake one, even if some don't appreciate the effort!"
