McDonald's To Pay Songwriters to Rap About Big Macs

Posted on March 29, 2005

The Guardian reports that McDonald's will soon be launching a promotional campaign that will pay rappers between $1-$5 every time a song they wrote plays on the radio and mentions a Big Mac. The ad firm that came up with the idea said it had success getting rappers to mention Seagram's gin in their songs. McDonald's will have final approval over the lyrics though, which will no doubt disqualify some of the more "creative" entries. At least a major corporation is promoting songwriting ability. Of course, depending on how the Supreme Court rules after oral arguments are heard today, said songwriter may find his Happenin' Big Mac Anthem shared royalty-free on Grokster.
