Medscape Taps Dow Jones Executive as CEO

Former Vice President of Dow Jones Interactive Publishing, Paul T. Sheils, has been named the new President and CEO of Medscape, Inc. Medscape, with over 500,000 registered members, is a leading professional healthcare information resource on the World Wide Web.
At Dow Jones, Mr. Sheils was responsible for all corporate and consumer online businesses including The Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition. Mr. Sheils also oversaw DowVision -- a direct-to-the-desktop news service, and Dow Jones' business news radio networks. Medscape's founding CEO, Peter Frishauf, was named Chairman of the Company's Executive Committee.
Mr. Sheils was recruited to Medscape by Ramsey/Beirne Associates, the high profile search firm that has placed executives in many of the nation's most successful Web and new media companies, including @Home, Microsoft, Pointcast, Netscape and Excite.
Medscape, a free site, contains freely-available, peer-reviewed, full-text articles and continuing medical education programs, access to critical drug/disease databases including MEDLINE, and thousands of exclusive articles and interactive features. Its membership of 500,000 includes more than 120,000 physicians. Every week Medscape members access more than one million documents, including interactive features and online journals.
