Mrs. Grisham: One Tough Editor

Posted on January 11, 2005

In a very funny appearance on The Daily Show last night, bestselling author John Grisham told Jon Stewart that his wife reads all of the drafts of his books, before he sends them off to his editor. Apparently, Mrs. Grisham is a tough critic who pulls no punches. Once, she hurled a manuscript at him and told him he could do much better.

Thankfully, Mrs. Grisham -- who sounds quite passionate from her husband's fond description -- loves her husband's new book, The Broker, which hits bookstores tomorrow.

A powerful message behind Mr. Grisham's story is that behind every great writer is a great reader - one who throws the draft at you if it isn't good enough. Stewart also congratulated Grisham on getting banned in Mississippi.
