Posted on July 26, 2000

MSNBC.com, an online news website, has reached an agreement to incorporate local news content from the websites of The Arizona Republic, The Boston Herald and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer into the MSNBC.com affiliate network. The MSNBC.com affiliate network provides content and links on MSNBC.com from the websites of more than 90 local TV stations and 11 print outlets in the U.S. The announcement was made by Uli Haller, MSNBC.com manager, local affiliate program.

Under terms of the agreements, MSNBC.com will provide links and drive traffic to localized content from all three websites, as well as provide for increased promotion of the local brands on co-branded pages. In return, MSNBC.com will get selected local stories and headlines in addition to promotion and links from the local websites to the MSNBC.com homepage.

``MSNBC.com is partnering with these newspapers, three of the most recognized names in local content in Arizona, Boston and Seattle, to expand the offerings of the MSNBC.com affiliate network and to deliver the most up-to-the-minute local news coverage to a nationwide audience,'' said Haller. ``The deal marks the first time we have partnered with major market daily newspapers to provide local news content on MSNBC.com as well as their own Web sites.''

The editorial staffs of The Arizona Republic, The Boston Herald and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer create local news content for their respective websites and will now allow for access to local content from the MSNBC.com affiliate network. MSNBC.com provides increased promotion and audience to the local papers' Web content. The MSNBC.com affiliate Network generates approximately 14 million page-views per month.
