MSNBC on the Internet is the most popular general news website for Gross Audience, according to the latest, September 1998, data from Media Metrix, the PC Meter company.

MSNBC.com held the No. 1 position with Gross Audience (the number of unique users multiplied by the number of times they visit a site) for the combined home and work panel with 33.6 for the month of September. In comparison, CNN.com came in second with a Gross Audience rating of 32.5. USAToday.com came in third with a rating of 22.4, while ABCNews.com came in fourth with Gross Audience rating of 13.9.

Media Metrix records PC activity by individual users within sample households. All figures are reported monthly. Reach numbers represent the percentage of the Internet population that visits a website during a given month.
