Mysterious Galaxy to Close Redondo Beach Bookstore Location

Posted on June 8, 2014

Mysterious Galaxy, one of the best independent bookstores in Southern California, announced that it will close its retail bookstore in Redondo Beach. The store will close officially on June 15th, and all the store's books are on sale right now.

Mysterious Galaxy will keep its original San Diego store, but will move the store to a bigger location. The Redondo Beach store will be turned into a warehouse for the company's expanding special events business,

Managing partner Terry Louchheim Gilman blogged about the change saying, "we are moving on to new (sort of) territory. We have made substantial gains in our outside events business and it is here where we will focus our efforts from this point on. In fact, in Los Angeles, Orange County, and the South Bay, we will be expanding our events business to include additional community-focused events in partnership with local businesses, conferences, authors, and publishers."

He said he is aware how unhappy their customers will be to hear the news: "We know that many of our loyal customers and friends in the South Bay will be saddened by the news that we are closing our bookstore, but we will be actively looking for opportunities to serve them in other ways. We plan to create and host events at local venues, enabling readers and authors to come together to share their love of books and conversation."
