NEA's Cat-a-Van Reading Tour begins February 24. The Cat in the Hat themed van will promote good oral health and literacy in over 20 cities in eight states. It will take a 4,000-mile journey over a three week period. Over 30,000 special stovepipe "reading" hats, books and toothbrushes will be handed out to children.

The Cat-a-Van's journey will kick off this year's Read Across America celebrations. Read Across America will take place on March 3, 2014.

NEA President Dennis Van Roekel, said in a statement, "Educators know that students need to come to school ready and able to learn, and students who are absent from class due to health problems are missing out on critical instruction time. Everyone from Horton to the Grinch can benefit from developing good oral health and reading habits."
