Neil Gaiman Visits The Colbert Report

Posted on March 22, 2009

Stephen Colbert blasted the ALA for selecting The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman as the Newberry Award winner. He invited Neil to be on the program to defend his children's book, which begins with a knife in the dark.

It's not easy to fence with Stephen Colbert, but Neil does a fantastic job of holding his own. Colber's response when Neil mentions Tom Bombadil from The Lord of the Rings is just hilarious.

Neil said in his journal that it was all unscripted, which just makes it funnier.

Neil writes, "I think I worked and I really did enjoy it -- I loved having no idea where things were going to go (no, it was not rehearsed, no, I had no idea that mentioning Tom Bombadil would produce that result)."
