Netflix Orders Green Eggs and Ham Animated Series

Posted on May 23, 2015

Netflix is focusing on children's programming in addition to its adult hits like House of Cards. Netflix has ordered a television series based on Green Eggs and Ham, the children's picture book classic by Dr. Seuss. Warner Bros Animation will develop the series. Ellen DeGeneres is the executive producer for the show along with Jeff Kleeman, Mike Karz and David Dobkin.

The series will follow Sam-I-Am and Guy, an inventor, on a global trip as they try new things. Jared Stern (Mr. Popper's Penguins, The Internship, The Lego Movie sequel) is slated to pen the script. Stern is also an executive producer.

Cindy Holland, Netflix's VP of original content, announced the new show with a rhyme:
"We think this will be a hit
Green Eggs and Ham is a perfect fit
for our growing slate of amazing stories
available exclusively in all Netflix territories.
You can stream it on a phone.
You can stream it on your own.
You can stream it on TV.
You can stream it globally."

A start for the series has not yet been announced. However, Ellen announced the animated series on her show and says it won't arrive until 2018. She says the show will combine two of her favorite things: "Dr. Seuss and binge watching." Ellen says you can watch it with a fox and without socks.

Update: Here's a teaser for the upcoming series.
