New Dr. Seuss Book to Be Published in July 2015

Posted on February 18, 2015

A new Dr. Seuss book, What Pet Should I Get?, will be published on July 28, 2015. The manuscript with sketches by the late Ted Geisel were discovered in his home in La Jolla, Calif. The book will be published by Random House Children's Books.

Random House says the manuscript and sketches were found shortly after Geisel's death by his window Audrey Geisel. It was set aside at the time and was then rediscovered by Mrs. Geisel and Claudia Prescott, Geisel's longtime secretary, in 2013. The publisher says the box contains enough material for at least two more upcoming books.

Audrey Geisel says in a statement, "While undeniably special, it is not surprising to me that we found this because Ted always worked on multiple projects and started new things all the time - he was constantly writing and drawing and coming up with ideas for new stories. It is especially heartwarming for me as this year also marks twenty-five years since the publication of the last book of Ted's career, Oh, the Places You'll Go!"

Random House says the sketches for What Pet Should I Get? were found nearly complete. Dr. Seuss is believed to have created the book between 1958 and 1962 because the brother and sister in the book are also in One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, which was published in 1960.

The new title is likely to be a bestseller. We are curious as to what pet the boy and the girl choose in the new book.
